The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians Stanley Sadie, editor. Washington, DC: Grove's Dictionaries of Music Inc., 1996. This is the standard, fully international, multi-volume musical reference work for the English-speaking world. Of particular interest willbe the biographical entries for composers, which include lists of works. There are also articles on the music history of many countries, traditional and folk music, bibliography, and a wide range of other topics.
