ASCAP New York Sessions Presents Stargate, Sandy Vee, David Lang, Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, Maria Schneider and Other Top Names in Music at the 92nd Street Y on March 31st

One-Day Career Developing Event Opens with ASCAP's General Annual Membership Meeting

New York, NY, March 11, 2011: ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) will present a one-day career developing event called "ASCAP New York Sessions" on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Kaufmann Concert Hall at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan. Launched in 2009, the event is devoted to the craft, creativity and business of being a music creator. The day will begin with ASCAP's General Annual Membership Meeting led by ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams.

ASCAP New York Sessions programming includes:

  • Master Session: Stargate & Sandy Vee — Songwriting/production duo Stargate (Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Hermansen) have crafted massive hits for some of today's biggest artists, including Katy Perry's "Firework," Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable," Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World,)" Ne-Yo's "Closer." In this Master Session, songwriter, producer and DJ Sandy Vee ("Firework," "Only Girl (In the World)") will join Tor and Mikkel to share the inspiration and craft behind their biggest hits, breaking down how they take a song from idea to the studio to the top of the charts.
  • The Sound of Success: Creative Careers in Music — songwriter/producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers ("Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)," "No One"), Pulitzer Prize-winning Composer and Co-Founder of Bang on a Can David Lang, composer Maria Schneider (Cerulian Skies, Concert in the Garden, Evanescence) and songwriter/producer Gregg Wattenberg ("Hey, Soul Sister," "It's Not Over") will share their insights on striking the right balance between the creativity, craft and business of being a music creator.
  • Make the Internet Work for You, presented by Bandzoogle — Founder & CEO of Bandzoogle Chris Vinson, Founder of Ariel Publicity & Cyber PR Ariel Hyatt, Founder & CEO/President of TuneCore Jeff Price and songwriter Adam Taylor (Play the Piano Drunk) will discuss proven strategies for each stage of your "fan lifecycle": getting exposure, engaging new fans and converting fans into buyers and loyal supporters.�They will look at the tools at your disposal (mailing lists, websites, social networks and other online services) and how you can use them effectively to reach your goals.
  • The Path To Placements: Music in Film, TV and Advertising — President of Clearsongs Jim Black, Founder of Jingle Punks Jared Gutstadt and CEO of VideoHelper Stewart Winter will discuss what placement opportunities are available and the best strategies for getting your music heard and placed.

Prior to ASCAP New York Sessions, ASCAP will hold its General Annual Membership Meeting, where ASCAP President & Chairman Paul Williams, ASCAP CEO John A. LoFrumento and ASCAP Executive Vice President Domestic Membership Randall Grimmett will give reports covering the state of the industry, legislation, ASCAP operations and member accomplishments.
