New York, NY, November 3, 2005: Alex Lawhon and Sweater Weather have won the opportunity to perform at the ASCAP and MySpace.com Present… Pop/Rock Showcase in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Friday, November 4, 2005. The showcase is designed to recognize and encourage local songwriters and bands and help focus attention on these deserving artists in their hometowns. The winners will join the line-up featuring Jett Rink, Honored Guests, and Cities at Local 506 (506 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC). Doors open at 8:00 pm. Admission is $6. Open to ages 18 and over.
Through a contest promoted exclusively on MySpace.com, bands from the Chapel Hill, NC area were invited to join MySpace.com and submit their music for consideration by becoming a friend of a specially created ASCAP Chapel Hill MySpace page; a total of 735 friends have joined to date. Due to the overwhelming response and huge diversity of contestants, two winners were selected to perform at the showcase.
