The ASCAP Foundation will continue its popular "Music
Business 101" series on Wednesday, March 6, with
a special interview with Hal David, one of pop musics
most successful and popular lyricists. Music historian
and EMI Music Publishing executive Alan Warner will
conduct the interview. David will share stories and
valuable insights into the both the business and craft
of songwriting, based on his extensive experience and
success. ASCAPs Brendan Okrent will host the event.
Oscar and Grammy-winning lyricist Hal David, who currently
serves as Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame,
is best-known for the string of smash hits he co-wrote
with Burt Bacharach in the 1960s and 70s for such
artists as: Dusty Springfield, B.J. Thomas, Marty Robbins,
Aretha Franklin, Gene Pitney, The Carpenters and, in
particular, Dionne Warwick. Davids collaboration
with Bacharach and other composers have yielded numerous
standards, including the Oscar-winning "Raindrops
Keep Fallin on My Head," "Walk on By,"
"Do You Know the Way to San Jose," "I
Say a Little Prayer (for You)," "Close to
You," "Alfie," "What the World Needs
Now," "Ill Never Fall in Love Again"
and "To All the Girls Ive Loved Before."
He has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall
of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Association Hall
of Fame. Hal David has also long been a leading citizen
of the music community, serving as ASCAP President from
1980 1986, and he continues as an active member
of the Societys Board of Directors.
"Music Business 101" is free and open to
the public and will take place on Wednesday, March 6
at 7 p.m. at the Directors Guild of America/Theatre
2 at 7920 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. Theatre space
is limited and reservations will be taken on a first
come-first serve basis.

"Music Business 101" is a series of informational
and educational sessions, sponsored and hosted by ASCAP,
featuring different music business guests and covering
such topics as performing rights, A&R, breaking
into the music business, and others. Geared towards
new and up-and-coming songwriters, these sessions also
provide ample time for audience questions and interaction
with guest speakers.
