RIP Hank Jones, 1918 to 2010

ASCAP mourns the loss of Hank Jones, a major force in jazz for over six decades as a pianist, composer and bandleader, playing on over 500 albums. Jones' musical family produced two other jazz greats, his late brothers drummer Elvin Jones and trumpeter Thad Jones. To have heard Hank Jones was to understand why he was one of the National Endowment for the Arts 'Jazz Masters.' His playing style embodied the essence of mainstream Jazz making him one of the most sought after and recorded Jazz pianists in Jazz history. A multiple Grammy nominee, Jones was included on the ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame and in the International Jazz Hall of Fame. He was also a recipient of The National Medal of Arts.
