Nate Walka

Nate Walka

"Blame It" and "Say Ahh" songwriter, Nate Walka, shares some insight with ASCAP's "On the Come Up" as to why his phone is ringing off the hook and more.

What was your inspiration for writing "Blame It" and "Say Ahh?"

Nate Walka: My inspiration for writing "Blame It" and "Say Ahh" was that I wanted to create music that reminded me of me. I'm a fun person, regardless of what's going at the time; you know, the life of the party. So, I created party records that made people feel good and were records that everyone could relate to.

What are you working on, currently?

Nate: Well, since the release and successes of "Blame It" and "Say Ahh," my phone hasn't stopped ringing (lol). I've been working on various projects and spending a lot of time working on my first studio release, which I am more than excited about. I'm also currently working with Jamie Foxx on his new album, as well as projects with the likes of Travis Barker, Brittany Spears, Verse Simmonds, and DJ Khaled's newest artist, Jarvis - just to name a few.

Where are you from, originally?

Nate: I'm originally from Memphis, TN. I have lived in a few places by experience, but my roots are in Memphis.

Who is your musical mentor and why?

Nate: When it comes to music, I have many influences and people that I admire. But, if there is anyone that I could say was my mentor, it would have to be Kendrick Dean. I credit Kendrick with helping me to hone and develop my musical artistry/talent into what it is today, what you all are experiencing right now.

What was your first introduction into the music industry?

Nate: Wow, that goes all the way back to home in Memphis, when I realized the gift that I possessed. I began singing in school assemblies, talent shows, and even sang with a boys choir. Eventually, where I started, then would lead me to participate in a 30-city tour with Industry vet Shwayze and I have not slowed down since that experience. I gained invaluable experiences pertaining to being an artist and a songwriter. The rest is history in the making.
