Brooklyn Bones

Alvin Singleton's Brooklyn Bones: Requiem for the Prison Ship Martyrs for tenor, chorus and orchestra received its world premiere on November 15, 2008. It was commissioned by the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and American Opera Projects with assistance from the New York City's Partnerships for Parks group of organizations. Utilizing an original text by fellow ASCAP member Patricia Hampl, the work was written in commemoration of the Fort Greene Park Prison Ship Martyrs Monument. The premiere was by the Monmouth Civic Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Mark Shapiro, and took place in the auditorium of Brooklyn Technical High School in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. Singleton was recently named Composer-in-Residence at the Fine Arts Academy in Tirana, Albania.
