Amina & Safia Schmahl
What are your most recent projects and what do you think people are responding to the most?
Amina: I'm working on the Black Buddafly album (RSMG/Def Jam), writing and collaborating with such artists as Troy Taylor, Kay G, Dallas Austin, Red Cafe, The Inkredibles and more. I'm developing as an artist as well as a writer.
Safia: My last project has been me and my sister's group: Black Buddafly. People have been responding great to the new sound and I can't wait to put it out there to let more people see and especially hear what we do!
What and where are you planning to work on next?
Amina: I'm writing and arranging for other artists and getting on different projects in New York, L.A and Miami.
Safia: I'm currently working on our new album Black Buddafly. I'm excited to work with different producers and writers from all over the states.
Where are you from originally and where do you live now?
Amina & Safia: We're originally from Germany now living in New York.
What was your first project as a musician that you really felt was important?
Amina: It was the Black Buddafly single "Bad Girl" featuring Fabulous (featured on the "Waist Deep" soundtrack 2006).
Safia: Me and my sisters have always been singing and writing together and have had a lot of different opportunities and situations that were important to us. The most serious thing for me I think was when we came to America and signed our deal with Def Jam/RSMG. That was a really big thing for us and it's something we've always been working towards.
Who do you look to as a mentor in your career and what have they helped you to learn?
Amina: My Mother and it was to not let the business change me. Teddy Riley who taught me to keep myself motivated in tough times and to stay positive no matter what. And also L.A. Reid who taught that everything is a process and to become more self-confident.
Safia: There are a lot of artists, songwriters, and producers that I have learned from even without knowing them personally who have inspired me to get better and challenge myself. Also I've learned so much from both of my sisters Amina and Sophie. Without them I wouldn't be where I am today!
