ASCAP attracted a capacity crowd to its inaugural Women Behind the Music event, which took place on August 25, 2009 at 595 North Lounge in Atlanta, GA. The high-profile showcase, co-hosted by DJ Traci Steele of 95.5 The Beat and Musiq Soulchild's Official DJ, featured dazzling performances by Grammy Award-winning songwriter and the newest addition to Bravo's hit reality show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Kandi Burruss; Alja Jackson aka Jesse Jane (Leftfield/Interscope Records); Krave (Upfront Megatainment); Mika Means (Universal/Motown Records); and Brittany Street (Good ComPENy).

The music industry and fans alike came out to support the second event in ASCAP's Women Behind the Music series, held September 8, 2009 at The Highlands in Hollywood, CA. The Lipstick Lounge showcase featured live performances by soul and R&B singer-songwriter Goapele (Skyblaze Recordings), R&B girl group Electrik Red (Def Jam Recordings/Radio Killa Records), singer/songwriter/pianist Rachel Assil (KonLive/Bu Vision), and soul and R&B singer-songwriter Liz Paige (Lifeline Entertainment). The evening was hosted by Radio Free 102.3 KJLH on-air personality Adai Lamar, and featured special guest DJ Kill Him aka Kim Hill (One Brave Indian Records).

107.5 WBLS on-air personality Jasmine Sanders (Middays with Jasmine) hosted the finale event in the Women Behind the Music series, which took place at New World Stages in New York City on September 9, 2009. The educational panel titled Stilettos and Soul: Live Song Collaboration, provided a unique opportunity for audience members to experience a live songwriting session featuring hit writers Cri$tyle "The Ink" Johnson (Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," Natasha Bedingfield's "Angel"), Pen Up Girls (Karina's "See You Later," Bobby Valentino's "Butterfly Tattoo") and Kristal "Tytewriter" Oliver (Raheem Devaughn's "Customer," Danity Kane's "Show Stopper"). The writers were accompanied at the piano by Grammy Award-winning songwriter, producer and keyboardist, James Poyser.
