LOUIS ANDRIESSEN (BUMA), CHEN YI, BETSY JOLAS (SACEM) and MICHAEL TILSON THOMAS by the Zeltsman Marimba Festival to write for an instrument that's relatively new to the concert stage, a marimba.
MIKEL BELL by the Kuna Middle School Choir in Idaho. The work for treble choir will be premiered at their end of the year concert. His “Adrift,” a two-part treble choir piece at the District III solo and Ensemble Festival in Nampa, ID on March 3, 2008 by the Marsing High School Vocal Sextet. Bell's seven new works were released through Lighthouse Music Publishing.
HERMAN HARRY BURNETTE by the Flute Symphony of Lexington (KY) to compose a piece of the ensemble by July 2009. It will be professionally recorded through a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council.
HOWARD HERSH by Davadi to write a new work for piano/percussion duo, Adrienne Park and David Carlisle.
HUCK HODGE by the American Composers Forum and the Jerome Foundation to compose a work for the Afiara Quartet in San Francisco. This was part of the 2008 Jerome Composers Commissioning Program.
LEE KERR and BRYAN CUMMING to write a theme song for the University of Mississippi's $200 million MomentUM fund-raising campaign. The song, "For the Love of Ole Miss," was introduced by the Count Basie Orchestra at a concert in Oxford, MS.
DAVID MAJZLIN by Fine Line Media to compose score for feature film Herb and Dorothy. The score is a fusion of modern jazz and classical. Directed by Megumi Sasaki. Majzlin was also commissioned by the Labyrinth Dance Theater to compose music for “Noor Un Nisa,” a story about the life of a female WWII spy, Noor Inayat Khat. Sasha Spielvogel will choreograph the performance.
ERIK NIELSEN by the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble for a flute, clarinet, violent, cello and piano quintet piece. Nielsen’s Quartet for Strings #2 was premiered by the Chiara String Quartet on March 15, 2008 at the Chandler Center in Randolph, VT.
ANDRE SARNOFF and PAT MAIORINO to write the theme song, "A Mother's Kiss," for an organization dedicated to comforting the families of childhood cancer patients.
ZHOU TIAN by the Green Bay Commission Club for a work for full orchestra, which will be premiered by the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra during the 2009/2010 season.
