JAZZWEEK SMOOTH JAZZ CHART TOPPER |
| Mindi Abair |
Mindi Abair: An Extra-Ordinary Artist Pop-influenced saxophonist, composer and vocalist Mindi Abair recently hit #1 on Mediaguide's JazzWeek Smooth Jazz Chart with her single, "True Blue," and for a young artist whose new album is entitled Life Less Ordinary, her career is getting more "less ordinary" everyday. The album is a Billboard chart-topping #1 Contemporary Jazz Album and she is embarking on a nationwide tour. Abair continues to rock the contemporary jazz world and continues her string of #1's since her debut 2003 album It Just Happens That Way, in which the breakthrough album established her as a fresh new voice and musical force in which to be reckoned. The CD was ranked the #1 most played contemporary jazz album that year by JazzWeek, and launched the #1 Radio & Records hit, Lucy's. Abair's muchanticipated 2004 release, Come As You Are, spawned her #2 jazz charted- single, "Come As You Are." A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Abair has shown off her style and her well-honed chops on her recordings and dynamic concert performances, but has also become the go-to saxophonist for megastar acts such as Josh Groban, Duran Duran, Backstreet Boys, Mandy Moore and Adam Sandler. Abair cowrote nearly all of the Life Less Ordinary tunes — mostly with her longtime collaborator and producer, musician and songwriter Matthew Hager.
