White Rabbits come to New York City via the arid plains of the Middle West. Although they have been in the city less then a year, they have in that short interval managed to catch the attention of Say Hey Records and producer Chris Zane (Calla, Asobi Seksu, Les Savy Fav) with their stellar songwriting ability and instrumental aplomb. Led by dual vocalists, Greg Roberts (guitar/vox) and Steve Patterson (piano/vox), the six-piece is rounded out by Alex Even (guitar/vox), Adam Russell (bass), Matt "The Duck" Clark (drums) and Jamie Levison (percussion). With a certain joie de vive, playfulness and charm, White Rabbits thematically evoke the more decadent and bygone era of Gatsby, days spent on the green, old cinemas, tragic mothers and restrained, but no less awkward domestic disputes. Added to their arsenal of three part vocal harmonies, interweaving guitar lines and punchy rhythms are the Rabbits' penchant for more tropical excursions, at times reminiscent of The Specials, a keen ear for the occasional cover song and the old instrument switcheroo on stage. Presently, White Rabbits are nearing completion of their debut LP, due in the coming months and have been ratcheting it up with more and better shows in New York. This is certainly one to follow though the looking glass…
