Master Session: Stargate & Sandy Vee
Through ingenious combinations of R&B, pop and Hip Hop influences, Grammy-winning Norwegian songwriting-production team Stargate, Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Hermansen, have crafted massive hits for some of today's biggest artists. They are a constant fixture on the charts, from Katy Perry's "Firework" to Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" to Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World,)" "Unfaithful," "Hate That I Love You," "Take a Bow" and "Please Don't Stop the Music" to Ne-Yo's "So Sick," "Sexy Love," "Closer" and "Miss Independent," as well as hits for Lionel Richie and Shakira. The duo recently teamed up with Jay-Z to launch the record label StarRoc, proving that these musical impresarios know their way around the business of music as well. Both Tor and Mikkel are instrumentalists, and the solid musical core they give each of their tracks is the key to the song's durability. Adding to that killer beats and a great melody, they work with each artist to fine-tune the perfect showcase for the artist's talents and strengths.
The work of Sandy Vee is all over the epic choruses of today's biggest pop hits. In his native France, Sandy worked with fellow hit-making producer David Guetta on his One Love album, but most recently here in the U.S. Sandy, along with co-writers Stargate, won the Grammy for "Only Girl (In the World.)" And tracks he's worked on are taking up residence all over the charts, like Pitbull's "Hey Baby (Drop It To The Floor)" featuring T-Pain and Taio Cruz's "Higher" featuring Travie McCoy. In addition, Sandy's list of collaborators includes Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesias, Mike Posner and Ne-Yo.
In this special Master Session, producer/mixer and collaborator Sandy Vee will join Tor and Mikkel to share the inspiration and craft behind their biggest hits, breaking down how they take a song from idea to the studio to the top of the charts.
