ASCAP Voice of Music Award
Presented To Luis Fonsi

The ASCAP Voice of Music Award is presented to Luis Fonsi who illuminates people’s lives through song.

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Orlando, Florida, Luis Fonsi dove into show business at a young age, singing in a school vocal group called the Big Guys that also included future *NSYNC star Joey Fatone. Following high school, Fonsi studied singing at Florida State University and scored a contract with Universal Music Latino. He debuted on Universal in 1998 with Comenzare, which peaked at #27 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and spawned four hit singles: "Si Tu Quisieras," "Perdóname," "Dime Como," and "Me Iré." Since his debut, Fonsi has released five more Spanish-language studio albums, each of which has reached gold or platinum status throughout the Spanish-speaking world.

Initially molded as a traditional Latin balladeer, Luis Fonsi began to break from that mold steadily and enjoyed even greater success and more critical acclaim as a result. His many accomplishments include multiple Latin Grammy nominations, back-to-back Premio Lo Nuestro wins for Male Pop Artist in 2006 and 2007, and collaborations with Christina Aguilera, Jose Feliciano and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. Fonsi's success shows no signs of slowing. His most recent album, Palabras del Silencio (2008), debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Latin Album chart, went platinum in the US only three months after release, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album; its single "No Me Doy Por Vencido" was the only Latin song to be selected as one of "The Best Songs of 2008" By iTunes. Fonsi continues to prove himself as one of Latin pop's great vocalists.
