(l-r): Edward Gelhaus, Jerry Herman and Ruthie Baker

Recipients of The ASCAP Foundation 2004 Jerry Herman Legacy Scholarship

The purpose of the Jerry Herman Legacy Series is to bring our American musical theatre heritage to students across the country. Jerry Herman, who wrote Hello, Dolly! and Mame, generously funds the program, which has two components. The first component includes a concert performance, a seminar on the craft of writing/working in musical theatre and master classes in musical theatre performance. These take place at least three times a year in three different cities. The second component enables students in cities across the country to see touring productions of musical theatre classics by providing students with theatre tickets. Following the performance, the students participate in a discussion focusing on the creative aspects of the production and in particular on the composer/lyricist contribution to the work.
