About the awards
The ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards program recognizes books, articles, broadcasts and websites on the subject of music selected for their excellence. The Awards were established in 1967 to honor the memory of composer/critic/commentator Deems Taylor who died in 1966 after a distinguished career that included six years as President of ASCAP.

Written works must be published in the United States, in English, during the calendar year of 2007. The subject matter may be biographical or critical, reportorial or historical - almost any form of nonfiction prose about music and/or its creators. However, instructional textbooks, how-to-guides, or works of fiction will not be accepted.

Paperbacks that were originally published in hardcover are not eligible. Reprints or translations of works that were previously published outside the United States that are now being published in the United States for the first time are eligible.
