The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) presented a special plaque to Jeanine Tesori, composer of Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Caroline, or Change, to mark her accomplishments as being the first female composer to have two hit musicals running concurrently on Broadway. The presentation took place during a reception at Noche Restaurant in New York on May 20, 2004, which was attended by a host of Broadway luminaries including Lucy Simon (The Secret Garden), Tony Kushner, David Zippel (City of Angels), Greg Kotis (Urinetown), Charles Strouse (Annie), Bill Finn (Falsettos), Richard Adler (Damn Yankees), Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), Tom Jones (The Fantasticks), Richard Maltby, Jr (Baby).
During the reception, Academy and Grammy winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz spoke about Jeanine's success and talent, and read congratulatory messages from Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and Stephen Sondheim who were unable to attend the event. The evening was capped off with a trip to the theatre to see Caroline, or Change.
